Russia,Ukraine presidents say ceasefire holding fairly well

FXStreet (Bali) - As Reuters reports, the recently announced cease-fire in eastern parts of Ukraine, according to the presidents of Russia and Ukraine, was holding up fairly well and they discussed urgent humanitarian aid.

Reuters adds, citing Ukraine's President Poroshenko, that "the two heads of state stated that overall the ceasefire was being implemented ... (and) discussed steps to achieve a permanent ceasefire."

The latest reports also note that both presidents were supportive "of the full involvement of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a rights watchdog, in monitoring the ceasefire", Reuters said.

However, a separate report noted the cease-fire being violated. "Prolonged artillery fire was heard late on Saturday to the east of the port of Mariupol in eastern Ukraine, a Reuters reporter said, in what may be the first significant violation of a ceasefire declared little more than 24 hours earlier."

"There has been an artillery attack. We received a number of impacts, we have no information about casualties," a Ukrainian officer told Reuters at the scene.
